Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron – DESY

DESY is one of the world’s leading accelerator centres and the main shareholder of the next generation X-ray laser, the European XFEL. Researchers use the large-scale facilities at DESY to explore the microcosmos in all its variety – from the interactions of tiny elementary particles and the behaviour of new types of nanomaterials to biomolecular processes that are essential to life. The accelerators and detectors that DESY develops and builds are unique research tools.

Committed young researchers find an exciting interdisciplinary setting at DESY. The research centre offers specialized training for a large number of professions. DESY cooperates with industry and business to promote new technologies that will benefit society and encourage innovations. There are two DESY locations, Hamburg and Zeuthen near Berlin.

Center for Free-electron Laser Science – CFEL

The Center for Free-Electron Laser Science is a novel joint enterprise of DESY, the Max Planck Society (MPG), and the University of Hamburg . CFEL is designed to advance science with next generation light sources. The three partners join forces to explore structure and dynamics of atoms, molecules and clusters, of condensed, biological, or hot dense matter on femtosecond timescales. CFEL envisions unraveling the dynamics of matter by uniting expertise from various disciplines and research institutions within a new interdisciplinary and synergistic effort.
