New Partnership for European and Global Research Collaborations

The funding initiative "Europe and Global Challenges" is now supported jointly by the Wellcome Trust, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Volkswagen Foundation.

With their joint funding initiative "

Europe and Global Challenges", the three foundations support scientific projects that help to meet the current challenges of society in Europe and worldwide. Climate change, economic instability, demographic change and migration require collective action beyond national borders. Research at an international level is required to address these problems and to develop solutions. "We are pleased that the Wellcome Trust, the largest European foundation, has joined our funding community. Together we aim to support researchers to dedicate themselves to the global challenges," said Dr. Wilhelm Krull, Secretary General of the Volkswagen Foundation. The "Europe and Global Challenges" initiative is aimed at research projects primarily from the social sciences and humanities. It promotes the development of international research groups with scientists from European and non-European countries. Deadline for submission of drafts is January 30, 2015.
