Four new members appointed to the Board of Trustees
On September 1, four new members were appointed to the 14-member Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Foundation.
The Volkswagen Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees. Each of the Trustees, seven of whom are nominated by the Federal Government of Germany and seven by the Government of the State of Lower Saxony, is appointed for a term of five years and may be reappointed once. The personnel changes were carried out in the framework of the regular schedule.
Newly appointed by the Lower Saxony state government:
- Dr. Gabriele Heinen-Kljaji?, Minister of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony, Hanover, as Chairman of the Board
- Professor Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Leohold, Executive Director of Group Research at Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Wolfsburg
- Professor Dr. Antje Schwalb, Head of Institute of Geosystem and Bioindication, Technische Universität Braunschweig
- Professor Dr. Heike Solga, Head of research unit "Skill Formation and Labor Markets", WZB - Berlin Social Science Center; Professor for Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin
Re-appointed for a second term by the Federal Government: Michael Sommer, Chairperson of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) (2002-2014), Berlin; Professor Dr. Waltraud Wende, Ministry of Education and Culture Issues of Schleswig-Holstein (2012-2014).
Resigned from the board of trustees:
- Professor Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Kowalsky, Institute for High Frequency Technology, Technical University of Braunschweig
- Professor h.c. Dr. Horst Neumann, Member of the Board of Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg
- Professorin Dr. Ursula M. Staudinger, director of the Columbia Aging Center and director of the International Longevity Center at Columbia University New York
- Lutz Stratmann, Minister for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (2003-2010), Oldenburg, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Foundation
