Addressing Future Challenges – Georg Schütte Takes up Position as Secretary General

Dr. Georg Schütte became Secretary General of the Volkswagen Foundation on January 1, 2020. He took over from Dr. Wilhelm Krull, who retired oat the end of December, 2019. Schütte previously held the position of State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and now he has some ambitious plans for the Volkswagen Foundation going forward.

At its summer meeting on June 28, 2019, the Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Foundation elected Dr. Georg Schütte as the new Secretary General of the Volkswagen Foundation. Schütte, who holds a doctorate in media and communication studies, has a convincing track record as an international expert in science management and promoting innovation.

Dr. Georg Schütte officially took up his post on January 1 and is looking forward to the work ahead: "As the new Secretary General, I would like to continue the Foundation’s proven success in promoting science in Germany at the highest level. Giving impetus for renewal in the scientific system, strengthening international networks and promoting the international reputation of science and research in Germany has always been and always will be a matter of great personal satisfaction to me. I would like to continue along these lines with my colleagues in Hanover."
