Off the Beaten Track

If you have an outstanding idea for a research project, are pursuing an innovative and unusual line of research, have already secured appreciable progress for your field, think across disciplines and the mainstream, but find nothing among the current funding initiatives of the Volkswagen Foundation under which you could classify your project, you may still be knocking on the right door.

However, besides the regular initiatives this offer remains an exception. In other words: whoever wishes to obtain support here must not only satisfy the highest standards, but must also plausibly demonstrate that no support can be obtained among the regular funding offers of other institutions.

In this case, please initially address the Foundation’s contact person for your field of expertise in order to clarify in advance the general chances of receiving support. Sketches may then be submitted via the electronic application system.
