New Conceptual Approaches to Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems
Deadlines: July 30, 2010 („Extreme Events“, invited applications only) and October 15, 2010 (Fellowships)
This initiative's focus lies on the theory of complex systems and the development of new methods which lead to a better understanding of complexity. Theoreticians from a variety of disciplines are encouraged to pool their expertise and to combine complementary approaches.
At present, the initiative is composed of the following components:
Fellowships "Computational Sciences"
Highly talented young researchers may apply for a self-designed project including their own postdoctoral position and thus move to an institute offering the ideal research environment and conditions for the work planned.
Research projects
Research projects are considered only after alternating calls on specific interdisciplinary topics. The calls "Extreme events: Modeling, Analysis, and Prediction", "Computer Simulation of Molecular and Cellular Bio-Systems as well as Complex Soft Matter" and "Complex Networks as Phenomena across Disciplines" are closed for new applications.
Symposia and summer schools
Symposia and summer schools are supported according to the respective funding initiative. Furthermore, the Foundation understands itself as a partner for innovative approaches to support research on complex systems.
Details on the topical focus of this offer, the funding possibilities, and the application procedure are provided in the adjoining Information for Applicants.
